influences and inspirations
Her varied influences include architectural drawings, city plans, traditional Chinese shanshui 山水 paintings, the surrealist imagery of Magritte and the pastel tones of Monet. Today, she describes her works as "visual poetry", composed by figures in landscapes, figurative but non-realistic drawings, offering two distinct readings depending on the proximity of the viewer. She believes in the universe and every sign of life, finding inspiration in natural landscapes, mountains and waters, stars, the moon, rainbows and bamboo.
Her preferred medium is pencil, capable of delicately fading or more intense marking, as well as fine felt-tip pens accompanied by watercolors. Pastel colors, soft and poetic, permeate her creations, guided by her emotions and inspired by real or imaginary landscapes, love stories and moments of life lived. Each of Rachel's drawings offers a multitude of readings, reflecting her journey towards self-confidence, her evolution in life and above all, her feelings and emotions at the time of creation. Her works subtly capture the variety of her hypersensitive and dreamy personality, underlined by the diversity of the palettes, the finesse of the lines and the complexity of the whole.
